The Power of Silence

It doesn't take the loudest voice in the room to prove a point. Recognize that you can control the power in the room by remaining silent. Leaders who speak mindfully command respect and project authority. Speaking less allows for careful word choice, especially in highly emotional circumstances. This approach makes you more confident and grounded no matter what chaos is going on around you.
The modern world exposes us to constant noise. Regular periods of silence reduce anxiety and improve wellbeing. Silence fosters creativity. Silence allows our brains to engage in a deeper processing of thoughts which supports introspection, imagination, and better self-awareness. It forces us to be more thoughtful and reflective in our actions and interactions. It enhances empathy, helps with conflict resolution, which strengthens our relationships with others. Remember it is not just the absence of sound but an intentional practice that protects us and those we love in noisy, overstimulated world.
One thing that helps me practice silence is mediation. I choose a time when I'm alone or the rest of the house is asleep. I choose a space with as little distraction as possible. Low lights, no noise. I sit and quiet my mind. I place one hand on my heart focusing on the beat until I get lost in it. Remember, this isn't a time to go over to-do lists, process your day, or dwell on past regrets. Allow yourself to be in the moment and embrace the quiet. I find that over time my body has come to know when it's time to stop, but you can easily set a timer. Start with five minutes and increase as time goes on. The more this becomes routine, the more grounded you become.
Silence is powerful. Reacting is impulsive and emotional, while responding is deliberate and thoughtful. Practicing silence helps you be more mindful of the words you say before they even leave your lips. This is order over chaos.
Hail the Folk!
Hail Victory!
